Areas of care are a guide, not a rulebook — several of our clinicians work well beyond what a single label can hold.
Understanding provider roles
Titles in behavioral health can be confusing. In general terms — your care may involve one of these roles, or several:
- Psychiatrists
- Medical doctors (MD or DO) specializing in mental health — trained in evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment, including medication.
- Psychiatric nurse practitioners
- Advanced-practice nurses who evaluate, diagnose, and manage treatment, including medication, in collaboration with the broader team. You may see them credentialed as APRN, ARNP, or PMHNP-BC.
- Psychologists
- Doctoral-level clinicians who provide psychological testing and evaluation, and often therapy.
- Therapists & counselors
- Licensed clinicians who provide talk therapy — here, licensed mental health counselors (LMHC) and clinical social workers (LCSW).
